Data Quality Analyst (Job Number: 1314626)
The incumbent is responsible for the creation, implementation and improvement of practices designed to improve the quality of Bank of New York Mellon's institutional client data. The resulting data quality ensures better-aligned data which improves the accuracy of information reporting for: executive management, marketing and sales management, corporate strategy, investor relations, product management and development, and sales support. Concentration is on the proper alignment of client and targeted prospect records. Examples of data quality actions include: eliminating duplicate records, linking companies appropriately into a hierarchy structure, matching and aligning externally purchased data (e.g., Fortune 1000 company rank) to enable market segmentation. This is a complex task, with over 40 data sources, each of which generally do not name a client consistently. Thorough research is conducted; both within Bank of New York Mellon's internal systems as well as using multiple external sources (e.g., purchased software licenses, internet search sites and company websites). The incumbent performs these tasks independently, using judgment and a working knowledge of company structure. He/she also scans the media and Internet sites for announcements of company acquisitions or divestitures; this information is used to proactively prepare for changes within Bank of New York Mellon's databases. All data quality actions are submitted to an Operating area for database input into Bank of New York Mellon's core systems. Secondary responsibilities include base user support for a number of enterprise-wide initiatives or information-reporting databases: Customer Focus Imperative (CFI), Platform (MAP) and an external vendor service, OneSource Information Services. Duties include responding to e-mail requests for information, coordinating requests for user id's, and testing new development work being implemented. The successful candidate will possess the skills necessary to make sound decisions, using fact-based research and judgment. The ability to multi-task and interpret multiple views of similar information (which often includes conflicting data) simultaneously requires flexibility and creativeness. The candidate must have a high tolerance for ambiguity and possess a level of confidence in order to succinctly communicate decisions regarding a change to client data.
A good understanding of Bank of New York Mellon's business and reporting structure is also required. A strong working knowledge of the MS-Office suite of products, the Internet and attention to detail are additional prerequisites.
