Job Description

This paralegal will play a key role in the Office of Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs (“OPPRA”) and its efforts to support BNY Mellon’s relationships with its regulators. Responsibilities will include assisting OPPRA with bank regulatory research and with the preparation of materials for meetings with regulators and senior management. This paralegal will also review, with assistance from attorney(s) in OPPRA, materials for BNY Mellon’s Board of Directors (“Board”) and the various Board Committees (collectively, the “Board Materials”). This position will report to a Senior Counsel in OPPRA’s New York, New York office who is involved with BNY Mellon’s significant regulatory interactions, including Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (“CCAR”) matters, and the review of Board Materials.   Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:  
  • Conducting legal research related to bank regulatory issues and delivering oral and written summaries of this research
  • Preparing materials, including PowerPoint decks, for meetings with regulators and senior management
  • Remaining informed about BNY Mellon’s interactions with its regulators, including reading regulatory reports and speaking with attorneys in OPPRA about regulatory developments
  • Liaising with the Office of the Corporate Secretary to facilitate the collection, review and distribution of Board Materials
  • Reviewing Board Materials and consulting with OPPRA attorney(s) regarding any questions that arise during this review
  • Managing an exchange on Intralinks, a secure online platform, for collecting and distributing Board Materials
  • Performing other discrete tasks for OPPRA, including preparing agendas and recruiting speakers for OPPRA meetings

Qualifications

 
  • A paralegal certificate from a business school, college or university
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a paralegal in a corporate, government or private law firm setting
  • Proven ability to deliver precise and timely work product, perform under pressure, remain organized and handle highly confidential material
  • Strong legal research skills, including the use of online research tools such as LexisNexis
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ideal candidate will have corporate paralegal experience
