Primary Job Responsibilities to Include:

 

This position will be part of a team that handles a large Cyber security project for administering host-based firewall controls to Unix and Windows servers.  This role is an opportunity for a UNIX SA, WINDOWS SA or NETWORK ENGINEER to get into Security Engineering by designing and maintaining a critical security service offering.  The tool/application being levered is a centralized software based tool that controls IPtables or Windows firewall.  You will not be working with traditional network firewall appliances.  The candidate must have at least a general understanding of networking, ports and protocols as well as a familiarity with the OSI model.

  • Assist with maintenance and release updates for our host based firewall infrastructure
  • Maintain/monitor performance of host based firewall infrastructure servers and remote agents.
  • Responsible for daily incident management where a firewall control may be involved
  • Respond to security incidents in a production environment, such as investigate and remediate possible endpoint breaches
  • Must be willing to participate in an on-call rotation for afterhours support
  • Identify and Manage special projects requiring thoughtful analysis and strategic thinking
  • Work with application teams to onboard their servers into the firewall segmentation strategy
  • Must be actively involved in the security community
  • Maintain custom firewall policies in the security application console
  • Maintenance of departmental documentation
  • Create and perform analysis of metrics with tools such as Splunk and SQL database

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required, 3-5 years of related experience required, experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.

  • Experience administering a firewall product in a large corporate environment (Preferred but not required)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong Verbal & written communication skills with an ability to articulate complex ideas to an audience without the same level of technical   expertise
  • Ability to take problems or obstacles and lead the way towards viable solutions
  • Skilled in working independently while knowing when to reach out for help
  • Capable of drawing up and running a project in a Project Manager like way
  • Experience administering Unix\Linux servers or Windows servers or Network level firewalls
  • A hunger to learn and grow in the area of Cybersecurity along with a willingness to openly share with the team, lessons learned and industry threats in the wild
  • The ability to cross-functionally lead and manage the response to high priority, high visibility operational security issues
  • Able to work in a 24x7x365 dynamic environment
  • System forensics/investigation skills, including analyzing system artifacts (file system, memory, running processes, network connections, logs
