Team Description: (Overview of the team)

Risk and Compliance provide risk and compliance services across all BNY Mellon businesses. Organizationally, Risk and Compliance includes the following groups: Risk Management, Compliance, Global Corporate Security, Information Risk Management and Global Business Continuity. Risk Management oversees and delivers risk services and ensures new business risks are reviewed and approved. Risk Management is organized through Chief Risk Officers for each core business and critical operation. Compliance contributes to ensure BNY Mellon's businesses and legal entities maintain and embed appropriate policies, procedures and processes to comply with applicable laws, regulations, BNY Mellon policies and ethics.

 

In EMEA, Compliance is split into four pillars; Advisory, Monitoring, Financial Crime and Regulatory Change and Policy. Advisory provide the second line of defence on a range of compliance issues for each line of business and legal entity in EMEA, assisting the business through understanding regulatory requirements, applying best practices and building strong and transparent regulatory relationships.

Job Purpose: (What the job role involves)

The role of the UK Compliance Officer – Investment Services is primarily to support BNY Mellon to remain compliant with regulatory standards and corporate compliance policies. This is achieved predominantly through the following:

  • The provision of technical advice to business/business partner colleagues on regulatory compliance issues. This will include proactively identifying and advising upon emerging Compliance issues.
  • Participation in internal business/governance meetings and represent BNY Mellon externally as required.
  • Representing BNY Mellon at relevant industry events/ forums.
  • Participating in or leading the delivery of Compliance related training.

Responsibilities: (Key parts to the job role)

  • Provide accurate and timely technical advice to business/business partner colleagues on regulatory compliance issues.
  • Represent Compliance within business driven projects. Provide constructive challenge to help ensure that BNY Mellon’s regulatory obligations are taken account of within the project.
  • Assist and/or own the collation and validation of Compliance Reporting to Legal Entity and Line of Business governance forums
  • Take a leading role in helping to manage our relationship with EMEA regulators, in particular the UK.  This includes regulatory correspondence, attending meetings with regulators, meeting write-ups and tracking of any actions arising.
  • Represent BNY Mellon at relevant industry events/ forums.
  • Participating in or leading the delivery of Compliance related training.
  • Ensure items for escalation, significant issues and/or other items of notes are recorded in the central database and highlighted to senior management/colleagues as required.

In addition the role holder should be prepared to assist as required in the following activities:

  • Where required participating in thematic and monitoring reviews of business activities
  • Oversight or assessment, communication and implementation of regulatory change to include the drafting of responses to industry papers.
  • Participation in ad hoc projects.

Qualifications

The role may require input across other BNY Mellon operations where business is outsourced. Therefore, the jobholder should be prepared to travel.

Requirements; (what we are looking for)

  • BA/BS, MBA or recognised professional certification/qualification preferred.
  • Proven experience of Financial Services preferably within Compliance, Risk or Legal or a demonstrable interest
  • Strong IT skills would be highly desirable, including Sharepoint, Excel and PowerPoint
  • A very well organised individual, with the ability to handle multiple competing priorities
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with the confidence and ability to communicate internally and externally with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to critically review and analyse varied materials and identify details for focus and/or challenge.
