Job Description

This Process Accounting Manager II – Derivatives & Global Markets position will assist with the oversight of all accounting and product control functions related to BNYM’s F/X trading activities.  This individual will work closely with all groups supporting the F/X business including front office, risk, technology and operations.  This individual will gain an in depth understanding of the F/X trading business and all related accounting and reporting processes.  Responsibilities of the group include preparation of daily trading P&L reports, P&L attribution, independent price validation, and SEC and regulatory disclosures.    Through indepth accounting and process knowledge, the Process Accounting Manager II - Derivatives & Global Markets is accountable to execute through effective, efficient Sarbanes-Oxley, regulatory compliant finance processes, in accordance with local and consolidated GAAP, useable, accurate and timely financial information from the point of transaction through financial close and finally to external reporting, which includes SEC, bankwide and/or local regulatory reports and board of director reports.  This individual will upkeep complex accounting processes, from a global and local perspective, required to transform data into information for reporting purposes with a specialized focus on derivatives and global market products.  As such, the individual may review workpapers and documentations and provide guidance and provide guidance on the documentation or development and improvement of accounting processes.   This individual is vital in sustaining the integrity of the accounting process that s/he is responsible for supporting. S/he is a key resource and will play a lead role in the addressing complex accounting matters associated with the process, design, build, and implementation activities to develop common end-state financial and accounting processes. The individual will utilize their accounting proficiency in exception management and continuous improvement activities. S/he will be familiar with the process standards established globally, regionally and locally, while ensuring compliance with the standards. S/he will also be able to recognize impacts of their accounting processes to external reporting; such as press releases, 10Q/K and other SEC filings, in addition to regulatory filings.  The individual will also participate and/or lead in adhoc assignments and projects.   The Process Accounting Manager I - Derivatives & Global Markets will work closely with the global process owners End to End (E2E), Functional Process Owners (FPOs), and Discrete Process Owners (DPOs).  The individual  may also interact with senior management such as the Corporate Controller and Regional Controllers.  In addition, the individual will coach and mentor peers and less experienced team members to perform their roles effectively.  S/he may take part in rotating assignments within the regional or global service center which cross accounting function associated with lines of business, legal entities and geographies to deepen their already strong understanding of the various BNYM lines of business, and the unique attributes of the legal entity, regulatory, and in-country requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:  Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting or equivalent work experience.  Preferred Education:  Varies by region: In US - MBA, CPA CA (Chartered Accountant), C.A/ AICWA (AICWA is Associate Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India), EMEA ¿ qualified Accountant.  Minimum Experience:  14+ years of general accounting experience in a complex global environment.  Preferred Experience:  4-7 years of accounting experience in financial services (mix of public accounting in the U.S.).  Significant experience in a product control function related to F/X and or derivative trading products including knowledge of related accounting subledger systems.  Significant shared services experience preferably, in a complex global accounting environment.  Demonstrated capability to understand accounting outcomes and explain accounting treatment, utilizing excellent English language skills.  PeopleSoft or other enterprise systems experience preferred.  Minimum Language Skills:  Strong written and oral communications skills in English.  Other:  Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification issued by local area professional licensing body.
