Data Center Senior Engineer
The Data Center Senior Engineer will be responsible for the data center infrastructure projects and day-to-day activities of the Data Center Services (DCS) group. The DCS team is responsible for the planning, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of all server hardware/devices. The position requires a professional with proven experience and success in managing the full life cycle of data center infrastructure projects from planning customer server installations, cabling, and designing structured cable plant systems. This individual will provide excellent customer service and report progress regularly. They will also assist the DCS team with troubleshooting server/network/storage systems. The work environment is fast paced and deadline-oriented where adaptability is key to our success as a team, thus having depth knowledge of working large-scale data center environments is necessary.
Key responsibilities include:
• Ability to manage and delivery small to mid-size projects from various internal customers of competing priorities and work them through to an effective resolution
• Responsible for all data center related hardware installations/repairs, configurations, troubleshooting (Intel/Linux/Network/Mainframe), upgrades (firmware) and optimization.
• Hands on experience with x86 architecture based systems
• Strong understanding of HP & Cisco standalone servers, enclosures, & blades.
• Experience with Data Center space planning, server cabinet layout, and cabling. Strong understanding of structured cable design (fiber/copper).
• Hands on experience with x86 architecture based systems (strong intel background)
• Full understanding data center cabling standards including fiber optics.
• Facilities hands-on provisioning (installing racks, setting up power, installing Ethernet, fiber and console cabling, terminate copper, label, remote power and KVM).
Infrastructure Operations -- Sr Expert->> This job holder is responsible for reviewing new/modified file transmission requests being submitted by all internal business partners at BNY Mellon. The Senior Business Liaison (SBL) is well vetted in various transmission technologies and can review each submission for technical accuracy, and ensure the request is comprehensive and ready for assignment/development. The liaison can identify missing or incorrect information and will contact either the internal requestor or external customer to clarify and finalize business requirements. Once the requirements have been finalized, the senior liaison will craft the file flow, define the protocol and application mnemonic, and assign the request to the file transmission analyst. The SBL will have come from a transmission analyst background, having developed file transmissions thru the various standardized protocols. The SBL will have an in depth understanding of internal business applications, where application file transmissions reside, and will have knowledge on LOB customer transmission information. This person must be able to multi-task, and have excellent organizational skills. This person also requires excellent written and oral communication skills. Furthermore, the SBL has to be ready to engage as a file transmission analyst should the volume work require additional resources to assist transmissions builds/configurations.
Associates. BS preferred. 1 Year, but we will train. 5 years preferred.
