Specialist Systems Engineer/Programmer - IBM MQ Messaging

TSG is building next generation scalable, efficient data center as a service using the latest innovation infrastructure. Building on top of the cloud deployments in BNY Mellon, we are aggressively automating and bridging the green field cloud with the existing virtual computing environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and managing the day to day operations of a large IBM MQ landscape; 300+ Queue Managers, 700,000 queues and channels in support of 100+ financial applications. They will work closely with Application development, Network, Security, Mainframe, Unix/Linux, and Windows administration teams. They will provide expert level support to development teams in consultation on the capabilities and uses of MQSeries and MQ. They will service user requests for object definitions within an SLA. They will be proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement, particularly in the area of automation. The candidate will be knowledgeable and forward thinking in order to support the organization’s goal of risk avoidance and resilience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing infrastructure incidents to resolution within the required OLA
- Processing infrastructure requests for service within the SLA
- Attending architecture review discussions as an MQ Messaging SME
- Work with network teams and customers to establish secure, encrypted connectivity
- Explore the use of new technologies to improve the service the team offers
Specialist Systems Engineer/Programmer->> Designs and develops solutions to complex application problems, system administration issues, or network concerns. Performs systems management and integration functions. May allocate/coordinate work within a team/project. Ensures that all systems, applications, software, and hardware are compliant with Corporate policy/procedures. Identifies issues and may lead the development of solutions. Works closely with external vendors to provide infrastructure needs. Works closely with Application Development and Quality Assurance and Testing teams to understand infrastructure needs during the development and testing processes. Strategizes on how to take these needs into account when developing infrastructure. Develops detailed project plans. Monitors project progress and provides regular status reports to management team. Evaluates the organization's existing infrastructure technology and researches and analyzes trends. Recommends and implements upgrades that enhance its reliability and efficiency. Contributes to the achievement of related teams' objectives.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree preferred.
- Six to eight (6-8) years of related experience required.
- Experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.
- Experience in engineering and operations of a large scale messaging eco system (where messaging does not equal email and IM).
- Experience with IBM MQ:
- Queue Sharing Groups
- HA Configurations
- Multi-instance configurations
- Distributed and Mainframe
- V9 is preferred
- Linux system admin and scripting language experience.
- Software development experience (Java/Python).
- Articulate language skills.
- Experience with Kafka is preferred.
