Team Description:

Derivative Valuations is a centralised global utility that support a number of functions across various business lines. We are responsible for valuing OTC derivative assets for inclusion in:

  • The NAV production process for mutual and hedge fund accounting teams in Europe, India and across several US locations.

  • The valuation of pension funds for global companies based in Europe and the US.

  • Driving margin calls as part of our collateral management business.

  • Regulatory reporting and risk analysis by the bank and our clients. 

     

    We are a centre of excellence in the OTC Derivative space and provide opportunities to gain considerable training and development across a range of functions, while benefitting from exposure to the wider NAV production process.

    We currently have 60+ people in permanent roles in Dublin, Poland, New York, Boston and India. The group continues to grow as we take on new business and additional responsibilities.

As part of BNY Mellon Client Service Delivery department, the Derivatives Business Unit is required to:

  • Review the daily pricing of OTC assets, manual price input and price exception validation review for a variety of clients.

  • Understand the theoretical/technical nature of all OTC securities and the data required for accurate calculation of OTC positions.

  • Provide oversight for global departments: ensure an excellent service standard, maintain a flow of communication, build relationships and continuously manage workflow between onshore and offshore locations.

  • Suggest improvements to processes and taking ownership of service provided to clients. 

  • Deliver work within a tight, deadline driven environment. 

  • Manage the take-on of new clients, this will involve working with both the client and various internal departments – Trade Capture, Fund Accounting, Reconciliations etc.

The Role

This Lead Analyst supports the Derivative Valuations group by playing an pivotal role in the well-functioning of the team:

  • Ownership of all the work completed by the OTC Dublin team.

  • Be the primary point of contact for audit, client, compliance, management and trustee issues. You will raise all relevant issues promptly to senior management.

  • Work with your colleagues in other locations to ensure best practise items are rolled out globally.

  • Work with the technology team to ensure all database developments are prioritised and successfully launched in the live environment.

  • Direct and regularly spot check the daily processing of OTC assets, manual price input and price exception validation review for a variety of Derivative clients. Ensure this process is robust and efficient.

  • Risk mitigation is a key responsibility, the lead analyst is expected to review processes against current market best practise and implement any improvement necessary. Evidence of regular reviews taking place is necessary.

  • Monitor daily processes ensuring staff complete as per agreed guidelines and procedures. Ensure outstanding issues are followed up on a regular basis and kept to a minimum.

  • Maintain accurate MIS details ensuring statistics are updated on a daily basis confirming volumes, timeliness and accuracy details.

  • Provide training on the theoretical/technical nature of all OTC securities to staff members.

  • The Lead Analyst is responsible for the integrity of the security master data on the OTC database, review and sign-off the master records completed by the analysts and supervisors.

  • Attend meetings with internal Fund Accounting Teams and external clients to discuss open issues and service levels where minutes are kept outlining decisions and action points.

  • Support the take on of new business into the team for existing client serviced and new business. Expected to play a critical role in shaping and defining operational model

     

Core Responsibilities:

  • Under moderate guidance, works with internal and external datasets and client reference data and provides analysis in the development statistical, financial and/or econometric models for analyzing asset performance, securities data, derivative pricing, risk exposure or other sophisticated concepts.

  • Provides analytical support and prepares drafts of standard and ad hoc reports for assigned area. With moderate guidance, supports assigned area with more advanced statistical and quantitative analyses. Serves as resource to less experienced colleagues. Runs models, looks for exceptions, takes corrective action.

  • Uses technology tools to conduct analyses. Applies techniques such as SQL and querying and macro development to extract data for populating models.

  • Has a good understanding of the relevant processes and products in assigned area and which analyses, methodologies and approaches best support assessment of performance, risk, or valuation. Interprets findings and prepares initial drafts of standard reports.

  • Prepares ad-hoc reports at the request of managers and/or other leaders. Translates complex technical concepts and analyses to non-technical audiences. Reviews accuracy of reports and calculations performed by less experienced colleagues.

  • Provides guidance to more junior analysts. Primarily responsible for the accuracy and quality of own work. Work contributes to the achievement of team goals.

 

Qualifications

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree in quantitative analysis preferred:

    • Finance

    • Mathematics

    • Business

    • Economics

    • Engineering / Data Analytics

  •  5-7 years experience preferred.

 

Experience in quantitative finance and technology preferred but not essential.
