Job Description

This position in the BNY Mellon Legal Department will provide legal support to the BNY Mellon Asset Servicing business line in servicing the Global Subcustodian Network by negotiating contracts with appointed subcustodians and analyzing legal and regulatory matters affecting the business line and its clients.  The Global Subcustodian Network operates in over 100 markets in APAC, EMEA and the Americas.  The Global Network Legal Team works with the Network Managers located primarily in Brussels, Singapore, and Brooklyn and handles subcustodian contracts, account opening documentation, annual legal opinion production for each market, and agent bank reviews.  It also provides assistance with client communications, network regulatory compliance, cross-border cash and securities settlement issues, platform conversions, and questions regarding the T2-S and CLS platforms.  The attorney working in this position will be expected to respond primarily to issues arising out of the Asia Pacific region and to offer support to the other team members covering issues throughout the Global Network. 


  • Law Degree and well-rounded experience in legal practice focusing on the financial services industry with a focus on global subcustodian and country issues.
  • Strong experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks to deliver a timely work product in a demanding and fast-paced environment, including requests for rapid turnaround and quick analysis of issues.
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external clients and legal counsel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Planning, tracking and organizational skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivation.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team across diverse geographical regions.
