Role Synopsis and Required Skills and Attributes

Strategic Responsibilities

• Lead role in delivering the business and technical roadmap for Pershing.

• Collaborate with the CTS Architecture team to establish and govern development best practice and standards.

• Cultivate a culture of dependable delivery, responsiveness and continuous improvement.

Operational Responsibilities

• Leading, technical management and mentoring experienced developers.

• Work with the development teams to establish and grow an Agile mind set and behaviours

• Leading development teams across technologies (presentation, business logic and database)

• Driving continuous improvements to the team with particular emphasis on improving code quality, design and testing

• Accountable for the delivery of departmental and company commitments.

• Work with offshore development teams in a ‘Team Extension’ model.

Technical Knowledge


• Hands-on experience of .Net / C# design and development

• Object Oriented and design principles

• Design patterns

• Experience of the full development lifecycle (including both Agile and Waterfall)

• Understanding and experience of engineering practices such as unit testing, continuous integration, automated testing, appropriate documentation, Clean coding practices, SOLID principles etc.

• Ensure delivery by self and others of high quality software requiring little or no rework in order to satisfy user needs

• Review of other team members designs / peer code reviews

• Contribute to the mentoring of junior staff as required

• Use of source control tools

• Appetite for Self-Development


• Web Services development

• Experience of developing software in a regulated business environment

• Leading, technical management and mentoring experienced developers.

• Experience of using TDD / the rollout of TDD

• Understanding of the trading functionality & Interaction with trading desk



MyCareer Path Description and Position Summary

Provides application software development services or technical support typically in a defined project. Designs and develops program logic for new applications or analyses and modifies logic in existing applications. Codes, tests, debugs, documents, implements and maintains software applications. Evaluates system requirements and processes, and maintains, tests and integrates application components. 

Provides application software development services or technical support in more complex situations. May also be responsible for requirements gathering and BRD/SRD preparation. Has thorough knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle. Conducts reviews of the test Plan and test Data. May allocate/ coordinate work within a team/project.                     


MyCareer Path Primary Responsibilities

• Analyses, defines and documents requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks, controls, and outputs using BNY Mellon's standard development methodology.

• Designs and codes programs, and creates test transactions and runs tests to find errors and revise programs. Prepares the final and detailed versions of system modification requirements; ensures turnovers are done on time and correctly.

• Writes new programs of moderate complexity and scope, working with basic application system designs and specifications, utilizing BNY Mellon's standard development methodology, procedures and techniques.

• Plans & Coordinates coding, testing, implementation and documentation of solution. Ensures that expected application performance levels are achieved.

• Interfaces with architects to design, code, test and implement application programs.

• Conducts analysis of organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation of application systems.

• Proposes innovative, creative technology solutions.

• Contributes to the achievement of team objectives
