Job Description

The organization’s risk management framework ensures that all material risks in each business line are defined, understood, and effectively managed by well-designed policies and controls, and that an organizational structure is in place to provide oversight in managing such risks and other strategic concerns.

 

This position responsible for executing and maintaining an effective risk management program in the Investment Management businesses in Greater China, encompassing all products and services offered by these entities.  Based in Hong Kong, the incumbent will serve as the risk & compliance specialist, central contact and “risk spokesperson” for all operational risk matters within Greater China.   This role is also supports the Greater China Compliance team on monitoring and surveillance activities.         


  • Work with Head of Risk and Compliance IM APAC risk management to ensure a consistent risk management framework is rolled out across IM APAC, including preparing Risk and Compliance reports for regional and global purposes.
  • Serve as the key point of contact in Greater China on all operational risk issues, providing regular updates on operational risk issues, including prevention, identification, mitigation and resolution.  Identify adverse trends and implement corrective action, as necessary. 
  • Review new business initiatives in Greater China and ensure that risks are appropriately identified and documented prior to submission to Business Approval Committee
  • Maintain (and enhance as required), including training, testing and challenging the business, to ensure an effective risk management regime is in place for the identification, monitoring, mitigation and reporting of risk management issues.  As well as developing an understanding of the related compliance and corporate governance issues. Oversee the Risk Management Platform including the risk control self-assessments, key risk indicators, operational risk events and risk plan.
  • Provide support to the Greater China Compliance team, including performing compliance monitoring reviews and surveillance.
  • Provide appropriate training on risk management to staff 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master's Degree or Professional Qualification
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in risk management, compliance or similar control functions within financial services, ideally asset management. 
  • English Proficiency
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to gain confidence of senior management and challenge the status quo, as appropriate
  • Superior problem solving and analytical skills, ability to work independently
  • Conceptual and strategic/forward thinker.  Ability to foresee changes in the business (both internal and exogenous) and associate those changes to future business impact and risks
  • Knowledge of compliance, economic issues and regulatory environment will be an advantage.
