IT Risk Analyst, Sr Specialist – GIARS SIRO, AST

The Senior Information Risk Officer (SIRO) is responsible for driving the strategic information risk program within a business area, multiple business areas and/or cross regions that s/he supports, while providing advice and guidance to the senior business managers, information risk officers and specialists. S/he will assist and support the AST Risk and Resiliency team with the development of strategic program elements and provide input to the risk prioritization of the division.

The SIRO must be able to work across global and regional groups and communicate information risk matters effectively to senior business management.

S/he should have experience within the Financial Services sector and be familiar with the operational aspects of the business area(s) that they will support.  This includes having a conceptual understanding of the specific risks that exist within a particular line of business or multiple businesses and how these risks may be addressed and a thorough understanding of control and risk management concepts including risk tolerance and policy. Provide subject matter expertise to quantify Information Technology Service Provider risk exposures within the business. S/he must possess an excellent knowledge of security systems and applications and be able to enforce and communicate related policies, procedures and guidelines.  Staff development & talent management experience and skills. Job holder must be knowledgeable in business risk analysis, technology risk management, access management, policy interpretation and process documentation. S/he will be required to manage multiple priorities in a very demanding regional and global environment. Must have the ability to translate technical issues into business terms, leverage risk control techniques to achieve business objectives.

Job holder must be able to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously with cross regional focus of Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions. S/he plays a lead role in establishing the risk strategy for the business area they support and is accountable for ensuring implementation of that risk strategy.  S/he is recognized within the Corporation as the subject matter expert in a particular line of businesses risk appetite. S/he consults to Business and IT Managers on issues, questions and problems. Related to his/her area of expertise and is accountable for resolving complex business risk issues that have a potentially major impact on the corporation's ability to conduct its business. Improper execution of this job could result in security breaches, failures on internal, external and regulatory audits, inability to satisfy new business demands around information security, and have an adverse effect on BNY Mellon. Assure all LOB staff including contractors and temps have an appropriate level of awareness of security issues and responsibilities.

S/he must have strong interpersonal skills and is required to build strategic relationships that will facilitate the execution of information risk initiatives. They must have the ability to make decisions, contribute to consensus building, manage a large virtual organization and balance the risks and controls with their business' objectives. Work with other business units, operations, technology, and liaison support of legal and compliance staff in relation to regulatory matters. Excellent influencer and collaborator, people motivator. Appropriately represent compliance with policies and standards to Sr. Management, internal and external auditors and regulatory bodies.


Identifies, analyzes, monitors and minimizes highly complex areas of risk that pertain to information technology. Leads coordination with disaster recovery and data security teams. Provides high value input into risk reports on complex issues. Presents reports to the business areas and TECH management. Leads complex projects that involve working with the businesses to improve controls that would mitigate any deficiencies. Ensures controls meet regulatory and organization standards. Develops and improves risk systems, methodologies and limits. Remains aware of TECH and market trends to determine potential risks to the organization. Recommends and leads any resulting change needed to mitigate risk. Contributes to the achievement of area objectives.



Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree preferred, 8-10 years of related experience required, experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus. ISACA certifications preferred.
