Senior Specialist, Technical Accounting

Job Description

This role provides technical accounting and advisory services to BNY Mellon businesses and controllers related to complex accounting and reporting matters.  These may involve accounting for investment management funds, entity consolidations, acquisitions & dispositions, financial instrument valuations, asset impairment analyses, software accounting, revenue/expense recognition, employee compensation/benefit programs, broker dealer transactions and capital market instruments. 

He/she supports the team's analyses, research, and evaluation of technical accounting matters, valuation, and unique transactions, and document accounting positions and suggested disclosures.  Develops written documentation regarding BNY Mellon's GAAP and IFRS treatment of proposed transactions with related assumptions and judgments.  Assists cross-functional teams in implementing significant new accounting policies.  Also reviews disclosures of significant accounting judgments and policy disclosures included in BNY Mellon's quarterly and annual reports.  Monitors projects of accounting standard setting bodies (i.e., FASB, EITF and IASB) and distributes internal summaries of proposals.  Assists in analyzing the operational and financial impact of proposed and adopted accounting standards.  Responsible for the quality and completion of own work.  No direct reports. 


Bachelors degree in accounting and CPA or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  Solid background in U.S. GAAP is required, and familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards is a plus.  Seven to ten years of total work experience in financial services and/or with the Big 4 accounting firms, is preferred.
