Corporate Tax Specialist - Information Reporting/Tax Withholding (Vice President)

Job Description

This role is the number two and right hand to the manager. Develops and delivers process documentation, training content, and super user support and ensures content is delivered timely. Works with all businesses responsible for information reporting and tax withholding, including Custody, Corporate Trust, Depositary Receipts, Accounts Payable, etc., and acts as point of contact and subject matter expert. Leverages understanding of tax regulatory environment, specific to the banking and financial services industry, in daily tasks.. Reviews and monitors the day-to-day tax activities of Corporate Tax and ensures compliance with BNY Mellon’s policies and IRS regulations on information reporting and tax withholding. Contributes to the Corporate Tax strategy and is responsible for ensuring the implementation of that strategy.


Validates the monthly review of proformas, performs year-end reconcilement of workpapaer, and ensures the accurate and timely submission of required IRS and state tax returns. Develops plans for remediating deficiencies and tracks the remediation status of the various business units. Reviews and approves the non-payroll tax deposits, accounting entries and wire payments processed by junior level staff. Ensures deposits of non-payroll federal and state taxes are fully documented and remitted to regulatory authorities in a timely manner.


Performs periodic reviews of the end-to-end tax withholding and information reporting process within each BNY Mellon business; including validating tax forms, ensuring withholding is accurate and deposited timely, and confirming reporting is complete and correct. Drafts Performance Indicators (KPIs) and works with businesses to complete remediation.


Also, identifies Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor and manage deposit and return performance, develops metrics tracking performance issues, and works with senior staff to provide insights to the outcomes of the scorecard reporting. Builds strategic relationships to influence at all levels of the organization. Liaises with lines of businesses and reporting vendors to ensure proper reporting of tax information. Supervises, motivates and guides more junior staff. No direct reports; however the person will provide guidance and tax technical support to the team.


Bachelor s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 5-7 years of total work experience in market risk preferred. Experience in tax compliance or accounting preferred. Strong technology skills are highly preferred. Knowledge of backup withholding, FATCA and NRA withholding, a plus.
