Regulatory Accountant, Specialist (Vice President)
The Regulatory Accountant role within the BNY Mellon Capital Markets Controllers group provides accounting and financial reporting support for all BNY Mellon Capital Markets activities. BNY Mellon Capital Markets, LLC is a registered broker-dealer with the SEC and is a member of FINRA. The Company’s businesses include securities underwriting, distribution, and trading. The individual will participate in preparing accounting entries, financial statements, and parent company reporting. Responsibilities of the individual will also include ensuring adequate controls are in place, preparing P&L reports, performing price validation procedures, and preparing various regulatory filings. This individual will interface with many areas including front office, operations, technology, and audit groups.
The candidate will support end to end accounting processes and complete research required to transform data into information for reporting purposes. Activities may include processing standard general ledger events and transactions, assisting with continuous improvement activities such as the identification and analysis of exceptions, providing support for audits, completing assignments to support the maintenance of the control environment, in accordance with global, regional and country-specific process standards and completing process improvements.
Duties include the responsibility for creating and posting journal entries to the general ledger accounts in an accurate, complete and timely manner. With little guidance, performs reconciliations of general ledger accounts or other financial data. Identifies and escalates issues, as needed. Reviews and/or approves journal entries and/or reconciliations completed by less experienced professionals. Performance of monthly reconciliations for general ledger accounts assigned to candidate. Provide support work papers as part of audits, fulfilling ad hoc requests and regular review and improvement of procedures. May deliver recommendations for use in accounting and financial reporting to senior management and the internal board of directors. May complete special project activities, as assigned.
Responsible for identifying and reporting risks, patterns or recurring issues and working with all necessary parties and technical teams to reach a resolution.
No direct reports. May review work completed by less experienced staff including overseas staff.
Contributes to the achievement of the assigned line of business, legal entity or entities, country, region or accounting process' objectives.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required. Accounting concentration preferred. MBA or CPA/CA/local area equivalent certification preferred.
Preferred Experience: 5-7 years of total work experience preferred with a minimum 2-3 years investment banking accounting experience. Knowledge of GAAP and accounting and finance concepts and analysis techniques preferred. Experience in investment banking accounting and accounting processes strongly preferred. Investment Bank accounting skills including product control and stock brokerage general accounting. Experience with SEC X-17a-5 FOCUS reports including securities haircuts (experience with Len Bole fixed income and risk based haircuts preferred), net capital and reserve computations under SEC Rules 15c3-1 and 15c3-3 is highly preferred.
