Sr. Specialist Application Support Analyst – Windows Server Admin, VB Scripting, SQL Admin

Maintains and supports moderately complex applications and their operating environments. Provides technical and/or business guidance to the SCM team as well as other groups. Ensures projects are meeting plans and objectives. Analyzes system requirements. Reviews and evaluates project plans and objectives to ensure they meet system needs. Monitors changes to applications and their operating environment. Analyzes any issues of high complexity. Provides application support input with regard to SCM activities. Interacts directly with clients regarding project activities. Applies effective project management methodologies and control techniques. Recommends technical solutions on application problems. Reviews and develops updates of contingency documentation and processes. Contributes to the achievement of area objectives. Coordinates production support activities for systems and related subsystems to ensure the integrity of computer generated data. Escalates issues to management. Monitors changes to applications and their operating environment.  Develops and maintains processing standards and procedures related to the information processing environment. Drives automation of repeatable tasks leading the AST Productions Support Organization to deliver best in class support.



Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree is beneficial, 8-10 years of diverse experience in multiple areas of information technology required, experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus. Preferred 6-8 years of experience supporting or developing applications.


S/he must be experienced with new application development as well as application support. S/he must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and quickly learn new application systems and technology.  S/he must have ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Primary job duties to include

  • Ability to work in a flexible & rotating work schedule

  • Infrastructure support

  • Support of BNY Mellon customizations

  • Participate in Agile based software development model

  • Provides leadership/guidance on technical subject matter to associates.

  • Troubleshooting moderate to complex issues.

  • Provides off hour support as needed

  • Serve as the primary contact for LOB specific issues.



  • Windows server administration skills

  • PowerShell and visual basic scripting

  • SQL administration and query building

  • Experience with Linux (RHEL), Apache, Tomcat

  • Experience with the agile methodology. 

  • Experience working in geographically dispersed teams

  • Experience working with large databases (MS SQL Server, Oracle, Vertica)


Nice to Have:

  • Working knowledge of DevOps tools GIT, Ansible, Jenkins, Nagios, Kibana, Solarwinds, Splunk, AppDynamics Prometheus, DynaTrace etc.)

  • Working knowledge of Event Management principles, methodologies.

  • Strong production support background

  • Incident & problem management background

  • Full stack development knowledge

  • Real-world RESTful web services experience  

  • Working knowledge of cloud based technologies, containerization.
