Department: Global Institutional Accounting

 

Department / Team Overview Global Institutional Accounting (GIA) provides portfolio accounting and reporting as a value added service to clients of the BNYM core custody business. The service provides the delivery, to agreed deadlines, of an audited market valuation for a portfolio or group of portfolios, together with supporting transaction details. The Accounting Change, Governance & Development (ACG&D) team works primarily with the local Manchester Institutional Accounting operations teams but also collaborates with the Global Institutional Accounting teams In India, the US and Netherlands on global accounting change events & initiatives. ACG&D supports GIA in all aspects of client accounting change events, efficiency initiatives, automation projects and tool query support as well as being heavily involved in governance and risk management, management information reporting and training support.   Role Reports to Senior Group Manager – Global Institutional Accounting   Overall responsibility Manages, motivates and develops a team that is responsible for: The on-boarding of all new EMEA Clients to the Accounting platform (IAS), the restructuring of existing Client portfolios and the transitioning out of Accounts / Clients that no longer require reporting. Providing support and guidance on any internally created tools that assist with workload completion and day to day operations tasks.  This is inclusive of Microsoft Office tools, macro support and development, root cause analysis, MIS production and project work to improve efficiencies. Ensuring that all SLD and governance information is maintained and updated as per the EMEA Third Party governance requirements.   Key areas of responsibility Manage and develop a highly motivated, flexible team of individuals that will adapt to the changing needs of the business, clients and other internal teams.  Lead periodic staff performance reviews ensuring fair and honest feedback and coaching is given.  Plan their personal development in addition to their operational and product knowledge through effective performance management and mentoring, to promote internal succession within the Institutional Accounting group. Provide oversight and ownership of the department’s Third Party Governance (TPG) responsibilities. Ensure that TPG SLDs and the governance required around them is completed within associated timeframes. Oversee the accurate and timely delivery of all Accounting change events, in-line with client and business expectations. Work closely with other Lead Managers within the department to collate the information needed to complete periodic reporting for the EMEA GIARS CAO and other related GIARS MI. Lead regular meetings with the Department Head and other relevant Lead Managers within EMEA in order to be able to effectively prioritise the various resource requests for the team. Open strong communication links with other GIARS Business Technology teams globally in order to ensure best practice is shared and resource is best utilised across the teams for both local and global initiatives. Develop own knowledge, to include the financial products used by our clients, operational procedures within the department and those of our internal stakeholders and current market developments.   Direct reports 11 direct reports ranging from Inter Rep through to Senior Specialist   Working conditions and other information Full time – 35 hours per week Monday – Friday This role does not fall under the FCA T&C Scheme                

Qualifications

Skills and experience Strong people management skills to include evidence of growing and developing their wider team. Previous experience in a financial services environment, ideally in an investment reporting or similar role would be preferable. However, a proven successful management track record will also be considered if the candidate can demonstrate the ability and desire to quickly self-develop their investment reporting knowledge. Attention to detail, good organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise in order to meet stringent demands. Effective written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to communicate with senior managers and team members. Excellent technical ability and an understanding of Institutional Accounting. Excellent numerical skills, with accurate manipulation, analysis & checking of work. Quick to develop new skills and a pro-active approach to learning and training Have a flexible attitude responding to the varying demands experienced in a financial services environment.
