The BNY Mellon Technology organization places great emphasis on reducing risk and increasing resiliency, which puts a strong focus to our engineering practices, including reliability engineering and development standards. The Resilient Systems Engineering (RSE) group is charged with addressing the need to continually enhance the stability, resilience, and recoverability of the firm’s critical assets and underlying infrastructure.

Uniquely, the RSE group bridges both infrastructure and application development teams, requiring deep expertise in the entire technology stack to achieve the highly resilient, scalable, and performant business services required by our clients.

The Developer Practices team is looking for a highly skilled Software Engineer to work closely with our product managers to develop products from start to launch.  These products will be used by all engineers and developers across the bank, uplifting the way to build and maintain software.  As a Software Engineer, you will also help drive the internal cultural shift to agile development and continuous product delivery.




  • Help defining the vision of the product and getting stakeholder buy in

  • Write code, mostly in Java

  • Engage with end users

  • Work with vendor products like Jenkins, GitLab, and JIRA

  • Follow an agile process for continuous delivery


Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience is required.

Eight to ten (8-10) years of experience in software development is required.

Experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.

  • 6+ years hands-on experience designing, coding, and maintaining enterprise-level systems using modern programming languages (Java, Spring Boot, Angular, etc.).
  • Strong passion for technology and ability to learn and adapt quickly to complex environments.

  • Experience interacting with and supporting end users.

  • Ability to translate business requirements into well-designed technical solutions.

  • Ability to work well within a team oriented environment.

  • Strong analytic, problem solving, and decision-making skills.


Highly Desired

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent knowledge and skills.

  • A belief in communicating openly, listening to others' ideas, and collaborating to arrive at great solutions.

  • A mindset of continuous learning – from other people, from the web, from user groups.

  • Enterprise-level systems design, implementation, and data migration experience.

  • You have a bias toward action, and can break down complex problems into steps that drive product development and delivery.
