Department / Team Overview:

Institutional Accounting (IA) provides portfolio accounting and reporting as a value added service to clients of the BNYM core custody business. The service provides the delivery, to agreed deadlines, of an audited market valuation for a portfolio or group of portfolios, together with supporting transaction details.

The reconciliations team works primarily with the local Manchester Institutional Accounting operations teams but also collaborates with the Global Institutional Accounting & Risk Solutions (GIARS) teams In India, The US and Netherlands on global initiatives

Overall responsibility (overview of the role):

Manages, motivates and develops a team of Managers responsible for providing support and guidance on any internally created tools that assist with workload completion and day to day operations tasks.  This is inclusive of Microsoft Office tools, macro support and development, root cause analysis, MIS production and project work to improve efficiencies. 

The lead manager is also responsible for prioritising and managing team workload and ensuring lead analysts remain on track with required deliverables.

Key areas of responsibility:

Manage and develop a highly motivated, flexible team of Managers and Lead Analysts that will adapt to the changing needs of the business and our internal and external clients. 

Work closely with internal stakeholders and service providers to ensure timely and accurate reporting in line with monthly and daily SLAs.

Lead periodic staff performance reviews ensuring fair and honest feedback and coaching is given.  Plan their personal development in addition to their operational and product knowledge through effective performance management and mentoring, to promote internal succession within the Institutional Accounting group.

Provide oversight and ownership of the department’s third party data inventory.

Work closely with other Lead Managers within the department to collate the information needed to complete periodic reporting for the EMEA GIARS CAO and other related GIARS MI.

Lead regular meetings with other members of the GIA leadership team and supporting functions to encourage collaboration and review of service levels.

Open strong communication links with other GIARS Reconciliation and Accounting teams globally in order to ensure best practice is shared and resource is best utilised across the teams for both local and global initiatives.

Responsible for the risks associated with the business requirements and control environment in place for the Reconciliations Group in Manchester.

All mandatory training to be completed by self and team within the stipulated deadline.

Develop own knowledge, to include the financial products used by our clients, operational procedures within the department and those of our internal stakeholders and current market developments.

Working conditions and other information (working hours, full time, permanent etc.):

Full time between 8am – 6pm

Monday – Friday

This role does not fall under the FCA T&C Scheme

 

 

Qualifications

Previous experience in a financial services environment, ideally in an investment reporting or similar role would be preferable. However, a proven successful management track record will also be considered if the candidate can demonstrate the ability and desire to quickly self-develop their investment reporting knowledge.

Ability to quickly analyse challenging situations and lead a group of managers on priorities.

Proven track record of process improvement, ability to adapt to change and bringing idea to implementation quickly.

Proven track record of managing others, including performance management and building team culture.

Attention to detail, good organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise in order to meet stringent demands.

Effective written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to communicate with senior managers and team members.

Excellent technical ability and an understanding of Institutional Accounting. Excellent numerical skills, with accurate manipulation, analysis & checking of work.

Quick to develop new skills and a pro-active approach to learning and training

Have a flexible attitude responding to the varying demands experienced in a financial services environment.
