Job Description

The incumbent is responsible for the review, preparation, and audit of loan documentation requests primarily from the Private Banking Secured Lending Division, and also from the Structured Division.  Must understand the elements needed for a credit transaction and to ensure compliance with Risk approval.  S/he must develop knowledge and a thorough understanding of policies, internal legal guidelines, and all government regulations and guidelines.  This position is also responsible for providing legal analysis support through review of client-provided documentation such as trust certificates, and entity formation documents (i.e. corporations, partnerships, L.L.C, etc.) to determine applicable elements (such as authorized signers, borrower/pledgor structure) and to recommend appropriate structure to minimize risk to the Bank.

Transactions supported by this function can range from $500,000 to $50 million.

S/he must be able to effectively schedule tasks to ensure maximum efficiency.  Will be able to prioritize and organize own work to ensure those critical tasks are complete, accurate, requested turnaround times are met and performance standards are consistently followed.

In addition to the Lending Division staff, s/he interfaces with the business development officers in 7 regions throughout the U.S., internal legal counsel, Loan Administration, Treasury Shared Service areas, other areas such as Letters of Credit, and may involve participation in projects, and training of non-staff members.

Qualifications

A BA/BS degree, paralegal certification and/or high school diploma and a minimum of 2 years of experience in the financial or legal industry are preferred.  Also required are strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to assess, articulate, and translate credit requests as they relate to the documentation and administration of a loan portfolio, and possess the ability to work under deadlines.  Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and use various BNY Mellon proprietary systems are critical.
