Job Description

Not for US use Under moderate guidance from more experienced attorneys, prepares basic legal advice for a particular business or functional area on broad, non-complex issues. Begins to build knowledge of either a practice area such as employment, contracts, litigation, securities, intellectual property, etc. or the internal client's business and associated products/services. Often contributes as part of a larger team supporting a department/unit. Assists in handling a portfolio of legal issues, supporting internal stakeholders, relevant to issues affecting the assigned entity. Actively involved in advanced matter work, supporting internal counsel through legal research, document review, writing and editing legal responses, etc. Seeks guidance from senior colleagues to ensure an understanding of their assignments within the context of the larger issues at hand and the strategies of the internal entity. Starts to develop capabilities to lead a team of lawyers in handling a portfolio of routine legal issues, distributing activities among the team and defining priorities. Coordinate and collaborate with various business areas to gather information related to legal matters or due diligence activities. Synthesizes information and presents summary to senior attorneys. May coordinate with outside counsel for information exchange. Conducts a first review of outside counsel work product and provides a summary of findings/observations to senior attorneys. Develops legal expertise through the execution of more complex activities and works to develop expanded knowledge of the specific line of business/function(s) or practice area(s) supported. May train less experienced attorneys on internal work processes. Provides training and advice to less experienced colleagues on advanced internal procedures or basic legal questions. Job scope is limited to personal contribution towards team goals. In some jurisdictions, may reflect the first level where the incumbent is considered a fully qualified attorney. Modified based upon local regulations/requirements. Advanced Legal Degree or local country equivalent degree usually required. Progression to this level usually requires licensure/certification by the local country or jurisdiction. In some jurisdictions, may not require licensure or certification for placement in the role; in others, licensure/certification is required. 3-5 years minimum of total work experience as a qualified attorney (or in pursuit of qualification) is preferred. Prior corporate legal experience within the financial services industry is preferred.
