Senior Principal, Government Relations

Job Description

Serves a subject-matter expert and key advisor on the Bank's position concerning legislation affecting its business, products, clients and long-term strategies. Ensures that the Bank's interests are represented at each point in the legislative process and in the development of industry/market rules and procedures. Leads the activities for key, high-profile and/or complex government relations issues, including serving as the primary liaison to coalitions and other external partners relevant to issues affecting BNY Mellon. Uses extensive knowledge of BNY Mellon's businesses, products, and services to lead advancement of its interests to legislative and rule-making bodies. Develops the legislative strategies for assigned portfolio of issues, balancing the Bank's interests with public relations risks. Develops relationships with key government officials and articulates BNY Mellon's positions on highly complex financial market rules and procedures and related legislative matters. Advises BNY Mellon leaders on pending or emerging legislative developments. Anticipates the evolution of legislative issues affecting the Bank's operations, long-term strategy, and potential new business opportunities and develops aligned lobbying strategies. Conducts in-depth, complex research and review of proposed and existing legislative details, applying significant knowledge of global political and rule-making processes. Develops and documents position papers, policy statements and related documentation. No direct reports; provides guidance to less experienced team members as needed. Works on government affairs issues of global scope and critical to the success of the Bank. Is empowered to represent the Bank to legislators and regulators in matters of significance. Work directly affects the achievement of organization goals. Modified based upon local regulations/requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required; Master's degree preferred. 12-15 years of total work experience preferred. Experience in government relations within the financial services industry preferred.
