Job Purpose

To manage the design, development and execution of the Risk Management Framework, with specific focus on operational risk, in respect of the central distribution and fund management business of the BNY Mellon Investment Management organisation covering the EMEA and Latin America regions.

To assist the senior management to identify, manage and mitigate risks rated to each firm’s respective activities, including in addition to operational risks, prudential risk, liquidity risk, credit risk, market risk, conduct risk and risks relating to financial crime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the Risk & Control Self-Assessment, working with business risk owners to ensure appropriate coverage against corporate risk taxonomy and identification and remediation of control gaps.

  • Perform diagnostic work on operational risk events and work with business stakeholders to develop actions to enhance the control environment.

  • Develop and maintain the Risk Appetite Statement for each applicable legal entity.

  • Develop, implement and monitor Key Risk Indicators and Risk Appetite metrics, reporting results to senior management, internal governance committees and boards (as required).

  • Maintenance of risk management policies and procedures, co-ordinate review of corporate policy updates, communicating key changes to business stakeholders.

  • Co-ordinate contribution to prudential risk capital planning at entity-level and to the consolidation entity ICAAP, working with senior management, Finance and corporate risk teams.

  • Provide support and facilitate business participation to central Information / Technology Risk programme working closely with the corporate Senior Information Risk Officer (C-SIRO) on IRM/TRM initiatives, including vendor management, technology assurance, data-loss prevention and insider-threat analysis.

  • Provide support and facilitate business participation to corporate Records Management programme, liaising with business stakeholders and central Records Management Office.

  • Participate in centralised initiatives across the BNY Mellon Risk & Compliance organisation, to ensure consistency of approach across business lines and facilitate peer support and knowledge-exchange.

  • Facilitate and provide training to the business on risk matters.

  • Make an active contribution to the effective governance of the legal entities and the broader Investment Management organisation through participation in business committees, legal entity boards and cross-business working groups, offering constructive challenge and encouraging debate on key issues, ensuring risk management information is qualitative, accurate, timely and clear.

  • Alert senior management including the Director of Risk & Compliance immediately of any significant changes to business risks and/or internal control effectiveness.

  • Participate in centralised initiatives across the BNY Mellon Risk & Compliance organisation, to ensure consistency of approach across business lines and appropriate knowledge-exchange.

  • Comply with all BNY Mellon Security and Health & Safety policies and procedures.

  • Contribute to the maintenance and testing of an effective business continuity plan to ensure an

    appropriate response to any disruption to business operations.

Qualifications

Job-Specific Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written, in particular report writing).

  • Attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.

  • Must be capable of exercising sound judgement and good decision-making in managing risk.

  • Good organisational skills and self-discipline in managing priorities.

 Technical Skills & Experience

  • Prior experience working with the financial services industry would be advantageous, particularly within Compliance or another control function (i.e. Risk or Internal Audit).

  • Exposure and understanding of accounting and finance desirable.

  • Familiarity with the UK regulatory system including the FCA’s supervisory approach and the Handbook of rules/guidance, particularly prudential rules, also beneficial.

  • Competent in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other desktop applications.
