Group Manager, Application Development - Java

Job Description

Clearing, Markets & Issuer Services Technology (CMIST) is responsible for application development and support for more than 350 critical business systems including Repo Edge (collateral management), Enterprise Payment Hub (multi-currency payment processing), and Broker Dealer Clearance (securities clearing).

 

Clearance and Collateral Technology (CCT) within CMIST builds high-performance and resilient clearance and collateral management platforms to service BNY Mellon’s broker-dealer clients and is the sole provider for Government Securities Clearing Services. The group is currently focused on Repo Modernization, which will pave the way to the Future of Collateral for the business – providing strengthened platform resiliency and new trade capabilities within a unified system. All CCT applications are built for real-time operations aided by a data warehouse for reporting and business insights.

 

Broker Dealer Clearance (BDC) is a low latency application that deals with high transaction volume. We are looking for a Technical Manager who will be responsible for -  

  • All phases of the systems development and implementation process. Provides analysis, design, development, testing and ongoing support for the client area application systems in an environment of diverse development platforms, computing environments, software, hardware, technology, tools, etc.

  • Analyzing BDC needs for development and interfaces with clients to ensure systems are developed that meet their business requirements.

  • Overseeing/reviewing applications programming and analyzing projects which include development and maintenance of application programs.

  • Leading analysis of organizational needs for development and implementation of applications. Interfaces regularly with product and project managers to ensure that systems are developed to meet their business needs and specifications.

  • Ensuring the availability, integrity and stability of production systems by identifying appropriate resources to manage all systems and having a process in place to respond quickly to problems.

  • Communicating and endorsing strict adherence to development and quality standards and monitors adherence on an on-going basis. Communicates timely and accurate project-related information to relevant parties. Acts as an advocate for change management, encourages innovation and creativity in technology solutions.

  • Recruiting, directing, motivating and developing staff, maximizing their individual contribution, their professional growth and their ability to function effectively with their colleagues as a team. Manages one or more development teams. Contributes to the achievement of team objectives.

               

Group Manager, Appl Development->> Manages a medium to large-sized or multiple small teams responsible for all phases of the systems development and implementation process. Provides analysis, design, development, testing and ongoing support for the client area application systems in an environment of diverse development platforms, computing environments, software, hardware, technology, tools, etc. Analyzes organizational needs for application development and interfaces with clients to ensure systems are developed that meet their business requirements. Oversees applications programming and analysis projects which include development, installation and maintenance of application programs. Leads analysis of organizational needs for development and implementation of applications. Interfaces regularly with clients and project managers to ensure that systems are developed to meet their business needs and specifications. Ensures the availability, integrity and stability of production systems by identifying appropriate resources to manage all systems and having a process in place to respond quickly to problems. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in systems analysis, program development with related supervisory, management and administrative experience required
  • Technically sound in Java/J2EE, Spring, JMS/MQ, Hibernate, REST Services and Oracle
  • Rich experience in design, applying design patterns, solutioning and code review tools
  • Recent experience managing a mid sized team is required.
  • Very in communication, troubleshooting production issues and in change management
  • Experience in the securities or financial services industries
