The Head of Technology Risk is a regional leadership role based in NYC and accountable to the Global Chief Technology Risk Officer of BNYM (based in NYC and a direct report to the BNY Mellon CRO). This is a 2nd line risk function accountable for oversight and creditable challenge of the Americas regional Technology department and the Lines of Business to ensure effective management of their technology risks.
Assessing line 1’s compliance with the Technology Risk Framework of the bank and delivering proactive management of technology risk facing the BNY Mellon lines of business (including Technology).
Directing the Americas regional Technology Risk Management function delivering TRM services and deliverables to the lines of business, technology executives, Americas risk governance forums and America’s legal entities.
Ensuring risk management of key Business dependent Technology services in alignment within the defined risk appetite. Ensuring quality, evidence-based responses from the 2nd line to the regional regulatory requests in regard to Technology risk.
Proactive executive stakeholder management which drives risk decision making, risk reduction, monitoring and alerting when risk thresholds are breached. Appropriately escalates issues to the assigned business area or region management team, as needed.
Senior part of the Technology Risk Management Leadership Team and accountable for delivery of TRM strategy, staff development, and effective delivery in support of the global TRM team.
Responsible for the ongoing independent oversight of day-to-day technology risk management activities for a business area, multiple business areas and/or Technology objectives.
Leads the assessment, monitoring and reporting on technology risks inherent to business activities, including cyber, information security and technology risk concepts.
Interprets and drives enforcement of technology risk policies, standards, regulatory requirements and a consistent technology risk management approach for region Americas.
Responsible for developing and driving the technology risk strategy and governance for the assigned business area, areas or regions in alignment with the Operational Risk Management Framework.
Interprets industry experience to determine appropriate key metrics (KRIs, KPIs) and best practices that drive technology risk and regulatory compliance.
Proven track record of technology risk management delivery and knowledge gained from either a line 1, 2 or 3 function: Applies understanding of technology controls, technology international standards, regulation relevant to technology and financial services, technology operational risk management concepts and methods, in order to interpret the technology risk needs of the assigned business area, areas or regions, and communicates effectively to senior stakeholders and risk governance forums to deliver effective management of technology risk facing the bank.
Proven track record of effective communication skills: Communicates technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Track record of effective communication from Board level members to junior staff, regulators, clients and outsourced providers. Leads efforts to develop a strong technology risk culture and to influence and ensure business and regional adherence to the technology risk management framework.
Technical background; Applies understanding of systems architecture, hardware, operations, system life cycle, information security, investigative principles, incident response procedures, computer forensics and information security practices to anticipate technology risks inherent to the assigned business area, areas or region
Human resource development and industry thought leadership; Recruits, directs, motivates and develops professional staff and more junior managers, maximizing their individual contribution, their professional growth and their ability to function effectively with their colleagues as a team and/or lead on a global basis. Track record of proactive engagement in industry thought leadership.
